Focus on Men's Health

This month, we celebrate the men in our lives on Father's Day. Show your appreciation for those you care about by encouraging them to practice healthy habits. June is Men's Health Month and we're encouraging men to take control of their health today!

Eat healthy
Though nutrition needs vary, the average man needs between 2,000 to 3,000 calories per day, considering factors like age, muscle mass, activity level and other special health needs. According to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, men should eat at least two cups of fruit and two and a half cups of vegetables each day. Men should also include tomatoes in their diet at least once a week. Studies of lycopene, a key nutrient found in tomatoes, have shown a protection benefit against prostate cancer. Men should also aim to get at least 38 grams of fiber each day. For men over 50, aim to include 30 grams of fiber in your diet each day. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, men are more likely than women to meet the requirements set forth in the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. This includes 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity, like walking, each week. The guidelines also recommend muscle-strengthening activities at least two days each week focusing on all major muscle groups.
