Charter Bank - Healthy Workplace
Charter Bank, a Mississippi-based financial institution, opened its doors in December of 2007. They offer a broad range of commercial and consumer banking services to small and medium-sized businesses, professional firms, individuals, civic groups and other organizations. Their main location is in Pascagoula, with additional locations in Ocean Springs, Biloxi and Gulfport.
Being a small and relatively new business, Charter Bank wanted to find ways to manage healthcare costs while combining wellness prevention. The group was in search of a wellness partnership to provide support and resources for its employees. This led them to partner with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi in becoming a Healthy Workplace in January 2011.
Charter Bank signed a Letter of Understanding with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi to move forward in becoming a Healthy Workplace. They offered employees a Health Risk Assessment (HRA) and paired it with health screenings to capture height, weight, blood pressure, total cholesterol, HDL and glucose. The assessment and health screenings were offered to all employees covered under the group benefit plan. Once data was compiled, the group was able to see the top health needs and interests of the employees in aggregate form. Activities were designed based on their needs and interests and then promoted by the group.
Charter Bank continues to offer worksite wellness opportunities including the HRA, onsite health screenings and quarterly wellness activities. They found that peer competition really keeps the employees motivated around wellness topics.
With the introduction of their worksite wellness opportunities, Charter Bank has seen an increase in HRA participation, biometric data and engagement in worksite activities. Below depicts success compared from Year 1 of Healthy Workplace (2011), compared to results in their most recent year, 2015. This data is based on their onsite health screenings and self-reported HRA data.
Healthy You! utilization has also increased since the introduction of our partnership. See comparison of the year before they signed the Healthy Workplace Letter of Understanding, vs. the current full calendar year of 2014.
